MyBnk is a charity dedicated to creating a financially fluent population. We work with over 50,000 people across the UK every year, delivering expert-led, high-impact financial education programmes. We bring the language of finance to life so that everyone can navigate their money with confidence, no matter where they started. At MyBnk, we are committed to empowering people, particularly those from marginalised and vulnerable backgrounds, with the financial knowledge they need at different stages of their lives, to build secure futures. One of the key groups we focus on is care leavers – young people navigating the transition to independence without the safety net of family support.
Challenges Facing Care Leavers Research shows that care-experienced young people are at a significant financial disadvantage. Our study with the Berkeley Foundation found that 67% of care leavers feel anxious about money, and 80% want more support managing their finances. Without the right guidance, care-experienced young people are at greater risk of falling into debt, homelessness, and financial exclusion. Through our ‘Care About Money’ video campaign, we highlight the financial “cliff edge” many care leavers face. Drawing on a second piece of research with the Berkeley Foundation, the campaign brought to light the abrupt withdrawal of state support at 18 or 21 often leaves care leavers struggling to manage bills, rent, and everyday expenses. We want to ensure that every care leaver has access to high-quality financial education at this critical time.

Corporate Partnerships Driving Change
To tackle these challenges, MyBnk works with corporate partners to expand financial education for care leavers and other vulnerable groups across the UK.
In Essex, where only 29% of care leavers live independently compared to 35% nationally, Saffron Building Society has committed £200,000 over two years to help care leavers and NEETs (young people not in education, employment or training) to build financial independence.
Speaking about working with young people in the region, MyBnk programme trainer Vicky Cutbush said:
“There’s a real need for more financial education in Essex. I’ve worked with young people who are already in debt, already using credit cards and don’t understand how to use them, or can’t pay their rent, or don’t understand the cost of living. And part of the problem is that young people don’t always know where to turn to for support so the work we’re doing at MyBnk is crucial.” Read more about our work with Saffron here.
Partnerships provide more than just funding; they bring expertise, employee engagement, and practical financial education that equips care-experienced young people with essential skills for the future. Through our corporate partnerships, we can unite to achieve outstanding social impact and drive systemic change that empowers young people.
Join us
We invite businesses and organisations to partner with MyBnk in our mission to create a financially fluent population. By supporting our programmes, you can help ensure that care leavers – and other marginalised groups – get the financial education they deserve.
A £200 donation to our charity transforms a care leaver’s life by giving them the skills to live independently for the first time, providing a foundation for their future.
For care-experienced young people, we also encourage collaboration with Saffron Building Society to help shape services that are truly inclusive and responsive to their needs. Your lived experience is invaluable in making financial institutions more accessible.
For more information on partnering with MyBnk or taking part in these initiatives, please contact: susiemay.robbie@mybnk.org.
Together, we can break the cycle of financial exclusion and empower care leavers and other vulnerable young people to thrive.
